The following information is provided as   For more information, please see our drop down menu.

What is gunite?

Gunite is a mix of portland cement and sand, mixed together with water and shot through a nozzle at high pressure to form the shell of the pool.

What is plaster?

Plaster is the finished surface material of the pool that is applied over the gunite.

What is coping?

Coping is the cap on the edge of a swimming pool or spa, which is mounted on the bond beam.

My old plaster looks terrible. Would I be able to paint or acid wash my pool to make it look better instead of incurring the expense of a remodel?

Painting the inner surface of a swimming pool is, at best, a short-term solution to improve the appearance of a pool. Unfortunately, if a pool is painted and the pool owner at a later date desires to install plaster or pebble additional charges are often necessary due to the difficulty in removing multiple layers of paint. Older pools that are acid washed will initially appear brighter but often become very rough to the touch due to the increased porosity in the plaster caused by the acid.

Can I get my swimming pool and/or spa replastered in a color other than white?

Yes! At R.O.W. Custom Enterprises, offer a variety of different pebble pool plaster and quartz pool plaster finishes.  click here for addtional color selection

My plaster has shading variations?

Known as mottling, and distinct from surface stains and deposits, mottling may appear as grayish hued areas. Rarely do I see a plaster job that is white like milk. They're usually white like clouds. Being a natural product, mottling is inherent in any plaster job and should not be considered a defect. There has been much research on the subject in recent years, however no consensus has been reached on the causes and cure of mottling.

My plaster is stained?

Different from mottling, stains are usually localized and distinct in color from the plaster. Most inorganic stains are caused by heavy metal minerals coming out of solution and depositing themselves on the nearest structure they find. They may also remain suspended in water, providing dramatic new color schemes .

My plaster has crystalline deposits?

Your pool water has precipitated metallic salts out of solution. This can create areas of the pool plaster which are extremely rough and scaly. There are several solutions to remove these deposits, including acid washing the pool plaster, scraping or sanding or the use of a calcium deposit dissolving chemical called Hydroquest.

I have existing cracks in my pool, if I replaster it can they return?

Yes, if you have an existing crack and you have your pool re-plastered  there is a strong possibility that the crack will return. Depending the type of  crack that you have it may be necessary to have epoxy injections done to the cracks.

Will the patch be noticeable?

Most of our patches are invisible from the pool surface. And with time most patches blend in completely.
